Through the teaching of Science, children will explore the world around them using all of their senses and will be curious about the things they observe and experience. This will help them to develop an understanding of scientific phenomena, giving them the opportunity to think critically about theories and ideas in order to seek explanations, as well as ask their own questions. Our Science curriculum allows pupils to develop the investigative skills of planning, predicting, measuring and observing, recording, asking questions, evaluating and concluding based on evidence and understanding. We also teach scientific knowledge through the different types of enquiry; Identifying and Classifying, Pattern Seeking, Comparative and Fair Testing, Research and Observing over Time. Each year group has their own topics to cover over the course of the year. However, certain topics are repeated across the year groups in greater depth, such as Plants, Animals (including humans), Living things and their habitats, Materials and Forces.
